Bobby Flay was born in New York City on December 10, 1964, to Bill and Dorothy Barbara (McGuirk) Flay. He grew up in Manhattan’s Upper East Side neighborhood. He was reared Catholic and attended denominational schools as a fourth-generation Irish American.
Flay requested an Easy-Bake Oven for Christmas when he was eight years old. A G.I. Joe, according to his father, would be more gender-appropriate. Despite his father’s protests, he received both of them.
