Who was Cathal Coughlan? And what was the cause of his death?
Cathal Coughlan, the vocalist of the widely praised indie bands Fatima Mansions and Microdisney, died. Their death news is confirmed by families saying they “slipped away peacefully in hospital after a long illness.”
Life and Career of Cathal Coughlan Microdisney–
Coughlan, who was born in Cork, founded Microdisney with guitarist Sean O’Hagan in 1980 before moving to London. They wanted to create unique music which nobody had heard before.
Having a lot of gentle and melodic indie-pop, they only had short-lived worldwide popularity.
Once their single track hit UK Top 40, they gained popularity in the UK and Ireland indie scenes, and they recorded countless discussions for future records. “I probably saw popular music as an easy route to cultural mobility, wherein a person with my then-fitful attention span and limited tolerance for the ‘wider picture’ of learning could live a creative life,” Creation of ‘The Fatima Mansions’
Coughlan left Microdisney in 1988 to create Fatima Mansions, which expanded into a rock to Europop and romantic melodies, with Coughlan, praised for his intimacy. He later identified his feelings at the time as “an outlaw mentality.” The perception of being in a band that crashing out was quite distressing, and I was living on a hovercraft of alcohol and caffeine.”
The band’s steadily, or the past recordings were released in 1994. Coughlan also created the duo Bubonique with comedian Sean Hughes and developed a couple of studio albums, the much more notable of which was Song of Co-Aklan. He recorded an album as Telefs, Microdisney intermittently revived in 2018 for a couple of live performances.
After the death news was confirmed, celebrities began pouring tribute, including musician Luke Haines. “I have no words at the moment. Just sadness and anger, really,” Tim Burgess of the Charlatans stated: “His brilliant songs remain. Play them loud and remember him.”
