He died instantly, and Pryce’s automobile brutally disfigured his body. Before striking the Shadow’s roll hoop, the fire extinguisher he held slammed into Pryce’s head.
The extinguisher was catapulted up and over the nearby grandstand due to the strike’s intensity. It fell in the back of the stand’s parking lot, where it collided with a parked car and jammed its door.

Tom Pryce married Fenella, also known as Nella, in 1975, after meeting her at a dance in Otford, Kent, in 1973.
Following her husband’s death, Nella opened an antique store in Fulham, London, with Janet Brise, the widow of Tony Brise, who died in a plane disaster alongside fellow racing driver Graham Hill in 1975, and then relocated to France.

All those who knew Pryce during his career, especially his wife Nella, his parents Jack and Gwyneth, and the Shadow team, were devastated by his death.
Pryce’s remains were laid to rest at St Bartholomew’s Church in Otford, Kent, near Sevenoaks, where he and Nella had married two years before.
