Wisdom Naya was a rising African football player. He played for the Sofapaka Football Club, based in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta County.

As announced by his football club, the young midfielder passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022.

Wisdom Naya died at the age of 19. He had just kick-started his professional career, but the faith was different for him.

Naya’s football club Sofapaka confirmed on Twitter: “We are saddened to have lost our former midfielder Wisdom Naya. Our sincere comfortings to the family and friends of Naya.”

The sports community in Trans Nzoia and throughout Kenya expresses sorrow at the young man’s demise.

One user on Twitterwrote: “My deepest sympathies go out to the family of a fantastic role model and promising sportsman Wisdom Naya, as a County we have lost. May God give the family, friends, and the people of Transnzoia the peace that they seek during this difficult time. RIP.”

Death Cause:How Did Wisdom Naya Die?

Wisdom Naya died after a long battle with cancer. The footballer had to remove his left leg in January 2022 surgically.

Naya was diagnosed with Sarcoma, a rare malignant cancer developing in the bones, joints, and connective tissue. The disease gets worsens over time with the increase in tumors.

Naya’s condition deteriorated after sustaining an injury during the training session. He had developed a painful swelling on his left knee.

The midfielder was admitted to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. He went through several medical procedures, including surgery on his knee. However, the doctor suggested that his leg had to be amputated.

In recent days, Naya had to skip the sixth session of his procedure, realizing that the swelling was soaring daily.

Wisdom Naya was a teen football prodigy. He had been playing sports since the age of five.

Naya participated in many school-level tournaments before making a big name. He played on the St. Anthony’s Boys team, and Sofapaka signed him in 2018.

The midfielder also participated in the Copa Coca-Cola African Cup of Nations trophy in 2015. He played in the game between the Solidary Boys and Nigeria. Naya had won the game for his team during the penalty shot that ended 4-3.

Since his performance at Copa Coca-Cola African Cup, many big African football clubs have been after him.

Wisdom Naya and his family hail from Trans Nzoia County in Kenya. His father’s name is Edward Onyango and mother is Dinah Cherop.

Onyangosaidafter this son’s death: “He had greatly improved, and I was hoping he would get back on his feet. His death is a huge disappointment to us. Let him rest in peace,”

The low-income family of Naya sought help from different doctors. They initially visited the Kenyatta National Hospital, which later referred them to the Spanish Hospital in India. The family traveled to India last December and went through months of treatment. They also received Sh500,000 for medical support. However, poor Naya could not survive.
