On Monday Atlanta Braves obtained Matt Olson as first baseman in a trade signaling an end to Freeman’s era. The Canadian-American professional baseball player who has more than 1,500 hits, Frederick Charles Freeman’s era likely comes to an end after Atlanta Braves acquired Oakland A’s star first baseman, Matt Olson.

Freddie Freeman who played for Atlanta Braves as a first baseman has a beaming professional career who had been awarded Gold Glove Award in 2018, and Silver Slugger Award consecutively three times (2019, 2020, 2021). The player is also a five-time MLB All-Star with the Most Valuable Player Award of the National League in 2020.

The decision of acquiring Matt Olson over the All-Star player Freddie was a tough decision by Atlanta as with his astonishing career, he had also won the World Series in 2021 over the American baseball team, Houston Astros representing Braves. While addressing the trade to the reporters, the General Manager of Atlanta Braves, Alex Anthopoulos said that “It was tough,” with him being emotional on the decision as the team wanted a solid first baseman.

Although the general manager wasn’t very specific about the trade and re- the signing of Freeman due to Major League Baseball and players in free agency’s rules, Atlanta Braves updated about the trade through a Twitter post.

“Welcome back home to Atlanta, @mattolson21! #ForTheA” captioned the official Twitter handle of Atlanta Braves with a poster that visualized Matt Olson in the Oakland’s jersey. The announcement was made on 15th March at 12:09 AM. Netizens seem to be upset over the decision of the Atlanta Braves to acquire Matt over Freddie Freeman.

After the official announcement, the netizens seem to be quite dissatisfied over the decision as Freddie has a huge fan base. Many took to the official post of the Braves and commented “no” over the trade announcement. Senior MLB editor of the sporting news also expressed his views and tweeted, “If Freddie Freeman is moving on from Atlanta, his last swing was a home run and his last defensive play was catching the final out of the World Series clincher. That's not a bad way to go out.”

WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS Barstool Atlanta also expressed gratitude to the player and thanked him for his contribution with a video. It captioned,” Freddie if this was your last home run ever for us. Thank you for everything you did for this franchise and the city of Atlanta,” with an emoticon of a handshake.
