Gavin Louis Escobar, an American professional football player who featured as a tight end for six seasons in the National Football League (NFL) has died at age 31.

What did Gavin Escobar die from? Escobar was one of two climbers found by first responders at Tahquitz Rock near Idyllwild in the San Bernardino National Forest on Wednesday, authorities said on Twitter.

Officials indicated Escobar and Chelsea Walsh, the other climber, died at the scene while climbing a “rock face.”

A small amount of rain fell in the area earlier in the day. However, officials didn’t immediately say if the weather change was a factor which led to the deaths of Escobar, 31 and Walsh, 33.

“Rescuers made access to the location of the victims,” the Cal Fire and Riverside County Fire Department added in a follow-up tweet which stated that Escobar and 33-year-old Chelsea Walsh had both “perished at the scene.”

Escobar played college football for the San Diego State Aztecs after which he played for the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens from 2013 to 2017.

He also played for;

  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Cleveland Browns
  • Miami Dolphins and
  • San Diego Fleet (AAF).

After retiring from football, Escobar worked as a firefighter for the Long Beach Fire Department in California.

He began work in February 2022.
