How did Alaafin Of Oyo die?

At the time of passing he was 83 years old and the longest-reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for around 52 years. As per the report, the remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo town which is 62 kilometers from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the early hours of Saturday and traditional rites started, the palace sources informed the media outlet. Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, is expected to make an official declaration upon getting a report of the passing of the monarch from the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinafe, the head of the “Oyo Mesi”, who will now direct Oyo town prior to a new Alaafin is installed.

As per the latest report, The monarch had been sick and a plan had been made to fly him abroad for his medical treatment prior to he passed on late Friday night. A source close with the medical travel plan stated his tickets and those of a few spouses were already procured. His demise came months after the 2 other senior Oyo State monarchs- the Olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Jimoh Oyewumi passed away. All these deaths occurred in less than 5 months.

Alaafin Of Oyo Death Cause

A new Olubadan has been put but the Soun throne remains vacant. Alaafin Adeyemi was born on the 15th of October, 1938 in Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi into the Alowolodu Royal House of the popular Oyo town. Adeyemi was crowned on 18th November 1970, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I. He was known famously as Iku Baba Yeye. While he step down, he was the permanent chairperson of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

With the death of Alaafin Adeyemi, it is now the turn of the Agunloye Ruling House in order to produce the next Oyo monarch. Alaafin Ladigbolu, the predecessor of Mr Adeyemi, was from the Agunloye House.
