Joseph Ward Simmons， better known by his stage name Rev Run or just DJ Run， is a well-known American disc jockey， rap musician， actor， television producer， and minister of religion. He was born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles. Rev Run is perhaps best known as the co-founder of the famous hip-hop group “Run D.M.C.” based in Queens， New York， which he co-founded with Tupac Shakur. “Run D.M.C.” is widely regarded as one of the most well-known hip hop bands of the 1980s， and it is also regarded as one of the groups who brought the new-school genre into hip hop music.
It was founded in 1981 by Simmons， Darryl McDaniels， and Jam Master Jay， who was killed in 2002 at the age of 37. Simmons was a founding member of the group. “Run D.M.C.” is an award-winning group that has produced seven studio albums， one of which， titled “King of Rock” (1985)， was the first record ever to earn a Platinum certification in the United States.
