John Paul Jones Biography
John Paul Jones is an English musician and record producer. His birth name is John Richard Baldwin. His stage name was suggested by, Andrew Loog Oldham, his friend. Andrew had seen John Paul Jones film poster in France.
John was born on January 3 1946, in Sidcup, Kent. He was the bassist and keyboardist in the rock band Led Zeppelin. He and Jimmy Page formed the band in 1968. Before forming the band, he was a session musician and arranger.
The Led Zeppelin band split after the death of the drummer John Bonham. This prompted Paul to develop a solo career. He together with Josh Homme and Dave Grohl. Formed a rock supergroup called Them Crooked Vultures in 2009. He started playing the piano at age six. His father, Joe Baldwin, was a pianist and arranger for big bands in the 1940s and 1950s. His mother was also in the music business.
John Paul Jones Music Career
Paul became the choirmaster and organist in his a local church at the age of 14. He also bought his first guitar at the same age. John joined Delta band at the age of 15. This was his first band. John then played bass for, Jett Blacks, jazz-rock London group. In 1962, John was hired by Jet Harris and Tony Meehan of the successful British group The Shadows for a two-year stint. This brought a breakthrough to his music career. John played a hundred of studio recording sessions with Decca Records between 1964 and 1968.
John later expanded his studio work by playing keyboards, arranging and undertaking general studio direction. Some of the artists and bands he worked with are the Rolling Stones, Herman’s Hermits, Donovan, Jeff Beck, Françoise Hardy, Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart, Shirley Bassey, Lulu, Dusty Springfield. He also arranged Mickie Most after he saw the good work he had done with Herman’s Hermits.
