When news broke out that Ozzie Albies had signed a contract to stay with Atlanta Braves, opinions were divided. Some thought the deal was bad, and others thought otherwise. For instance, the caption of a post about Braves-Albies deal on ‘The Ringer’ reads, “Ozzie Albies’s new deal could be the worst an MLB layer has ever signed.”  The caption is also part of the Twitter post of ESPN’s Jeff Passan, who has also criticised the deal.

The 23-year old ALL-Star second baseman from Curacao had his first major deal in July 2013 when he signed for Atlanta braves as an international free agent for $350,000. He made his professional debut in 2014 with Gulf Coast Braves and has since consistently delivered. During his Major league debut on August 3, 2017 against dodgers, Albies hit his first career home run.

According to Albies’s contract with Atlanta Braves, which was signed in April 2019, is for seven years with $35 million guaranteed, two teams options for $7 million each and $4 million buyout. This takes the contract sum to nine years and value to $45 million.

This means that Ozzie Albies salary is $5 million a year.
