Eilish McColgan is Scottish middle- and long-distance runner. She won the 10000m race at the most recent Commonwealth Games in 30:48.60 in Birmingham.
Eilish was born in Dundee, Scotland, on November 25, 1990. She holds the European 10 km road race record and the British records for the 5000 m, 5 km, and half marathon.
Similarly, the Scottish runner has the European best 10-mile time and is a two-time European medalist, having won silver in the 5000 meters in 2018 and bronze in the indoor 3000 meters in 2017.
She was the only athlete to finish the race in under ten minutes and the only British athlete to meet the “A” qualification standard. McColgan decided not to compete in the 2012 European Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Finland, despite having qualified for the Olympics.

Liz McColgan, Eilish’s mother, is a former British middle-distance and long-distance track and road runner. She won gold in the 10,000 meters at the 1991 World Championships and silver in the same race at the 1988 Olympic Games.
Similarly, Eilish’s father, Peter McColgan, is a former steeplechaser from Northern Ireland. McColgan holds the Northern Irish 3000 meters indoor record of 7:54.48, as well as the outdoor two and three-kilometer Steeplechase records. McColgan was born in the County Tyrone town of Strabane. He received his education at Omagh CBS.

She recently posted the photo with her mother on Instagram with the caption, “Great to have my mum back on the stopwatch today!” This indicated that Eilish’s parents had the most significant influence on her life.

She also added grew up with my mother, allowing me to make my own decisions. She never forced me to participate in sports. I never saw her medals. I was never forced to watch her races or anything like that. I chose to participate in this sport on my own, and I believe that is why I am so passionate about it.”
The athlete’s parents have always been supportive of her career. Her mother, a former 10,000m World Champion and Olympic silver medallist, coaches her at Dundee’s Hawkhill Harriers Club.

McColgan trained alone in preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1986. She won the 10,000-meter gold medal as Liz Lynch at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1986, finishing more than 12 seconds ahead of the next competitor and earning the host nation its lone athletics gold medal.
