Kebe Ikpi is a dedicated and passionate advocate of children and women’s rights. His work has seen several abusers of children end up in jail after trial in Court.
Kebe has contributed immensely to the review and validation of policies and passage of laws that seek to protect the rights of women and children in Cross River State.
Amongst his contribution are;
1. Review and validation of the Cross River State Child Protection Case Management Framework and the Standard Operating Procedure. (SOP).
2. Member of the technical committee that reviewed the Cross River State Child Right Law 2009. The law is now before the State House of Assembly for amendment.
3. Member of the technical committee that reviewed the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) and Disability Rights Bills (2021). Both bills have been signed into law by Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State on the 31st of December, 2021.
He has continued to contribute to the safety of women and children by ensuring that perpetrators of all forms of Gender-Based Violence face the law. He designed the data collection tools used for the enumeration of Street children in Calabar, research on Gender-Based Violence Amongst Women with Disability in Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State.
In the year 2020, Kebe led a team of volunteers to feed children in street situations in Calabar during the lockdown in Cross River State. These children’s survival depended on the food they got thereby preventing them from getting involved in stealing to survive the lockdown.
Kebe has been to hard to reach communities to advocate for the abolition of money marriage, a form of child marriage where female children are married out at age 3, 4, or even before they are born. A documentary was produced to draw the attention of the world to the barbaric act.
Kebe is a UNICEF trained Case Management Expert and has contributed to the training of other Caseworkers in Cross River State.
