Tom Reed Wife: Was Tom Reed Married?

Tom Reed, NC State’s head football coach from 1983-85 has died. He died Monday at a long-term care facility in Zebulon, North Carolina at age 77.

Was Tom Reed married? At time of death, Reed was married to an elegant and supportive wife known only as Cathy.

Following the news of Reed’s demise, current Super Bowl-winning Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh (who was coached by Jim Reed) and the Ravens released a statement to tribute Harbaugh’s former head coach.

“We offer our heartfelt condolences, love and respect following the passing of Coach Tom Reed,” the statement read. “To his wife Cathy, who cared so much for all the players, and the Reed family, we say thank you for sharing coach with us as part of your lives all those years ago.

“Coach Reed was tough and honest with a heart of gold. He loved Miami and everyone who played and coached there. Fromm all the guys on the ’80-’81-’82 Miami teams — we thank you, Coach! Coach Reed would always say, ‘Today is a great day for football.’ Coach, today is a great day for football and a great day to honor you life. We love you. May you Rest In Peace with the Father.”

Reed served as the head coach at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio from 1978 to 1982.

His best seasons at Miamai came in 1978 and 1981, when he led the Redskins to 8–2–1 records.

Reed had four winning seasons in five years and tallied a career record of 34–19–2 at Miami.

After the 1981 season, Reed accepted the head coaching position at North Carolina State University (NC State) and was replaced by Tim Rose.

Reed began coaching at NC State from 1983 to 1985.

He never had a winning season in three years and compiled a record of 9–24 with the Wolfpack.
