Tony Perkins is an American television news anchor best known for his work as ABC’s Good Morning America’s weathercaster (1999-2005). He is currently a weekday morning anchor for CBS 9 Get Up DC on WUSA in Washington, D.C.
After 20 years on Fox 5, DC, first as a weather forecaster and then anchor, veteran news anchor Tony Perkins held his final broadcast on January 19, 2019, on Fox 5 DC in order to move on and focus on Radio. Perkins wrote to his fans, “I have decided the time has come for me to move on from Fox 5.” Perkins is far from being retired. He is currently a weekday morning anchor for CBS 9 Get Up DC on WUSA in Washington, D.C. Perkins holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University (1981).

From 1983 to 1993, Perkins was a professional stand-up comedian who appeared at clubs and colleges across the country. He began his broadcast career as a desk assistant to the Washington office of ABC News. He served as a producer and on-air contributor to The Donnie Simpson Show on WKYS-FM in Washington, D.C. from 1985 to 1992.
He hosted and produced DC20 Breakaway for WDCA in Washington from 1986 to 1988. He served as a weather personality at WTTG in Washington from 1993 to 1999 and co-anchored Fox Morning News from 1998 to 1999 when he joined ABC’s Good Morning America, where his catchphrase to turn it over to local weather was “the weather in your neighborhood.”
He was a replacement for Spencer Christian, who moved to San Francisco in 1999 to do the weather for KGO-TV. He left Good Morning America in late 2005 to return to Washington’s WTTG. He was succeeded by Mike Barz at GMA. Perkins is currently a weekday morning anchor for CBS 9 Get Up DC on WUSA in Washington, D.C.

Perkins ‘ father, known throughout his life as a charming, outgoing person, committed suicide in 1992. He was in the early fifties. His sons Tony and Scott survived him and he had three daughters during two marriages following his marriage to the mother of Perkins.
