General Idi Amin ousted Milton Obote’s democratically elected government in 1971 and proclaimed himself president of Uganda, initiating an eight-year brutal reign that resulted in the slaughter of an estimated 300,000 civilians.
Along with rising military funding, his expulsion of all Indian and Pakistani citizens in 1972 contributed to the nation’s long-lasting economic downfall.
When Tanzanian and Ugandan exiles took over Kampala, the capital city, in 1979, Amin was forced to escape, ending his reign of terror.
Further, he spent the rest of his life in Saudi Arabia and was never prosecuted for his heinous acts.
What Actually Happened To Idi Amin?
Idi Amin was suffering from kidney failure in the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and was on the verge of passing away.
Nalongo Madina, his fourth wife, pleaded with Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda, to let him live out the rest of his days in Uganda.
Amin would have to “account for his faults upon being brought back,” Museveni retorted.
Unfortunately, Amin passed away on August 16, 2003, at the hospital in Jeddah after Amin’s family ultimately opted to turn off life support. He was quietly interred in a plain burial in Jeddah’s Ruwais Cemetery.

Born in Koboko to a Kakwa father and Lugbara mother, Amin was the son of a converted Roman Catholic to Islam in 1910.
A scholar at Makerere University claimed Amin was the son of Andreas Nyabire (1889–1976), a member of the Kakwa ethnic group who changed his name to Amin Dada.
Similarly, he was raised in a remote farming village in north-western Uganda with his mother’s family after being abandoned by his father when he was a little child.
Per his Wikipedia page, Assa Aatte (1904–1970), a traditional herbalist who treated people like Buganda nobility, among others, was Amin’s mother. She belonged to the ethnic Lugbara group, making him mixed Kakwa and Nubian ancestry.

Ultimately, there is no precise estimate of how many children Amin fathered, though most sources claim that he had 30 to 45.
Although Amin specified up to 46 children in his will, Jaffar Amin Remo (his tenth son) claims there are 60 children. The majority of his offsprings are still living abroad.
But as per Jaffar, his father loved his family so much that he devoted all of his leisure time to them, teaching them morals and how to swim.
Idi Amin’s oldest son Taban Amin was born in 1955, and he and his sister Maimuna Amin are in charge of handling Amin’s estates.
Faisal Wangita, a 1981-born man who is Amin’s son with Sarah, was found guilty of participating in a homicide in London on August 3, 2007.
The myth that Amin was a cannibal has been disproved by Moses Amin, about whom many people believed he had been eaten by his father Amin, who is still alive today.

Amin Was Husband To At Least Six Different Spouses
The former president Amin had at least six wives, three of whom he divorced. Malyamu and Kay, his first and second spouses, were wedded to him in 1966. He married two women: Nora in 1967 and Nalongo Madina in 1972.
But being the erratic person that he was, Amin publicly announced on Radio Uganda on March 26, 1974, that he had separated from Malyamu, Nora, and Kay because they had allegedly thrown a party without the showy man’s knowledge.

A few years later, in April 1974, Malyamu was detained in Tororo, near the Kenyan-Ugandan border, and charged with attempting to smuggle rolls of fabric into Kenya. In 1979, Nora eluded capture and fled to Zaire; her present whereabouts are unknown.
Nevertheless, Amin, a man who lived for pleasure, married Sarah Kyolaba, a go-go dancer with the Revolutionary Suicide Mechanized Regiment Band, at a wedding ceremony costing £2 million in July 1975.
