Emmett Till, a 14-year old black man, was brutally murdered in 1955. He was accused of flirting with a white woman. A few days after the allegations were placed against him, he was abducted by two white men and killed.
Prior to shooting Emmett in the head, the abductors beat him mercilessly and mutilated him. They later tied his body to a cotton gin fan with a barbed wire and threw him into the river.

What Did They Do To Emmett Till?
Emmett Till was visiting his great-uncle’s home in Mississippi during his vacation. He was accused of flirting with a white woman named Carolyn Bryant.
Carolyn’s husband, Rob, was on a business trip when the alleged interaction between Emmet and her took place. When Rob found out that Emmet had allegedly flirted with his wife, he and his half-brother abducted Emmet on August 28.
The kidnappers didn’t bat an eye at Emmet’s uncle’s, pleads. Instead, they threatened him and left with Emmett.
Moses Wright and Emmett’s two cousins witnessed his abduction. Wright defied all odds and testified against the kidnappers. As a matter of fact, he played a huge role in holding them accountable for the crimes they had committed.
Emmett Till Mutilated Face And Body Injuries
After abducting Emmett from his uncle’s house, Bryant and Milam beat him mercilessly. They even gouged out one of his eyes. Moreover, his body was mutilated beyond recognition.
After Emmett’s body was found 3 days later after his death, an autopsy was done. According to the report, “the crown of his head was just crushed out … and a piece of his skull just fell out.”
Not only was Emmett’s wrist bones, skull, and leg fractured, but he was also later shot in the head. The teenager couldn’t survive the gunshot wound inflicted upon him and passed away on August 28, 1955.

Emmett Till would have been 80 years old today. He might have left this world at the ripe age of 14 but is considered as one of the most important people in the Civil Rights Movement.
