In July 2012, when Gio Reyna was just 9 years old, his family suffered a huge tragedy.


His older brother Jack died of brain cancer at the age of just 13.

Giovanni Reyna is an American professional soccer footballer who plays as a winger with German Club Borussia Dortmund and The United States national team.

After representing the United States at several youth levels, Gio received his first call up to the senior United States squad for matches against Wales and Panama in November 2020.


On November 12, 2020, a day before he turned 18, he made his senior national team debut against Wales.

In the following game, a 6–2 friendly victory over Panama, Gio started and scored his first senior goal directly from a free kick.

Gio’s impressive performances for both club and country has seen him included in The Guardian’s “Next Generation 2019” and was one of the final candidates for the 2022 Golden Boy award.
