As per sources, he indicated he would take senior status, which is a type of semi-retirement for federal judges in which they resign their seats, during the Trump regime, but then revoked the offer.
Further, Kanne stated in a 2019 Politico story that he opted not to retire after learning that his former legal clerk would not be able to replace him.
