Moreover, he won the Rookie of the Year award in the USAC Stock Car division in 1967. In 1971, he won the Indy 500 for the second time, starting fifth and averaging 157.735 mph.

In 1978, Unser won the IROC championship. He also raced in the 1968 Daytona 500, and four more NASCAR Winston Cup & Grand National races on road courses, finishing fourth in the latter.
