Japanese actor, voice actor, and narrator Kiyoshi Kobayashi was from Tokyo. He belonged to the Tokyo Actors Consumer Cooperative Society. He graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan Koishikawa High School and Nihon University’s art department.

After more than 50 years of service, he retired as Daisuke Jigen’s voice actor in 2021. His most well-known performances were as Bem in Yokai Ningen Bem, Daisuke Jigen in the Lupin III series, the Wolf in the Droopy cartoons, and Shazzan (as Shazzan).

He is well known for reciting Hikari Ota’s If I Were Prime Minister… Secretary Tanaka, and Shukan Oriraji Keizaihakusho. Additionally, he provided Lee Marvin’s and James Coburn’s official dub-over voices.

The voice actor Kiyoshi Kobayashi died on July 30 from pneumonia, the talent agency Haikyo reported on Monday.

He was 89. private services were arranged for Kobayashi’s family. In addition, Haikyo said it would make further announcements on public service in the future.

After 52 years, Kobayashi announced in September of last year that he was leaving his long-running and recognizable role as Daisuke Jigen in the Lupin III series (Akio Ohtsuka replaced him in the role for the Lupin the 3rd Part 6 anime).

Before he departed from the role, Kobayashi, who had voiced the character since 1969, was the last surviving member of the series’s original first-generation ensemble.

Kiyoshi Kobayashi went to the National Institute for Cultural Studies after graduating from Tokyo Metropolitan Koishikawa High School, where he was a part of the Izumiza Theatrical Troupe and Nihon University College of Art in the theatre department in 1953.

He helped establish the Tokyo Actor’s Consumer’s Cooperative Society (also referred to as Haikyo) in 1960 and is currently a member of the organization.

When Kobayashi announced his retirement from the role of Daisuke Jigen on September 7, 2021, TMS cited his 88-year-old age and deteriorating physical condition as the reasons.

Kobayashi expressed his desire to continue playing the part at The First’s stage welcome, saying, “I want to do a bit more.”
