The least wrongly imprisoned of the tens of thousands of men and women serving time in Illinois jails may be Christopher Vaughn.
He is an American guy who was found guilty of killing his wife Kimberly and their three children. While traveling to a water park in Springfield, Illinois, the family’s SUV was shot up, killing all four occupants. While the other four received deadly bullet wounds, Christopher only got minor injuries to his wrist and leg.
He allegedly killed his family to live in the Canadian bush, according to the prosecution. Insisting on his innocence, Vaughn says Kimberly shot her family before killing herself. Investigating Innocence, a group that advocates for wrongful convictions, is looking into the situation.
Where Is Christopher Vaughn Now?
Kimberly Vaughn was shot in the head after Vaughn tucked a revolver beneath her chin. Blake, 8, Cassandra, 11, and Abigayle, 12, were all shot in the head and the chest by him as he turned his pistol, the same one he had used the previous evening to practice shooting at a gun range.
He allegedly murdered his family in order to live alone in the Canadian bush. Vaughn, 46, received a life sentence for each of the murders. Before finding him guilty, the jury had only been deliberating for about an hour.
Vaughn’s memory of the murders from 2007 probably wasn’t helpful. He explained to the police how he left his house at around 5 a.m. to take his family to a water park in Springfield. Kimberly started to feel unwell on the way, so he exited Interstate 55 near Channahon and took the quiet frontage road.
Vaughn exited the family SUV to inspect the roof-mounted luggage rack. He realized that his leg was bleeding when he got back into the car, so he got out once more and started to walk up the road to seek assistance.
Family Annihilation: The Murders of the Vaughn Family
Del and Susan Phillips of Saint Charles, Missouri welcomed Kimberly Phillips into the world on December 12th, 1972. She was one of Del, an attorney, and Susan’s three daughters. Jennifer, Kimberly’s identical twin, and Elizabeth, another sister, were both presents.
She graduated from St. Charles West High School in 1991. She played volleyball and was sporty. In 1994, she wed Christopher Vaughn. On June 14, 2007, in the wee hours, a guy in Will County, Illinois, waved down a pick-up vehicle on a frontage road close to I-55. The bleeding man said I think my wife shot me, to the driver of the truck.
EMS was dispatched along with the police, who also arrived at the location. Both his left hand and thigh were bleeding on Christopher Vaughn. He didn’t show any signs of fear and was composed. He claimed that after getting hurt, he got into the family SUV, where his wife and kids were waiting.
He claimed that he had forgotten how he got hurt. However, Kimberly, Christopher’s wife, and their three children were found dead inside the SUV.

Chris Vaughn, 32, was found limping from his SUV in early June 2007 after sustaining two non-fatal gunshot wounds. Blake, 12, Abigayle, 11, and Cassandra, 8, each of his children, were discovered in the back passenger seat of the automobile with two gunshot wounds.
Kimberly, Chris’ wife, was found dead in the front passenger seat, slumped over the center console, and shot under the chin with a single impact bullet.
