When a construction worker found the deaths of the Schobert couple in April 2013, Shawn Ford Jr. was wanted by the police. Shawn denied being involved in Jeff and Margaret’s deaths while being detained for fabricating Chelsea’s assault.
After the killings, Jeffrey’s car was reported stolen, and the police got a tip about it. Near Ford’s friend’s home, the police discovered gloves, a knife, and a knit hat inside a storm drain.

In Summit County, Shawn Ford Jr. was found guilty in 2015 of aggravated murder and other offenses related to the deaths of Margaret and Jeffrey Schobert two years prior.
Defense lawyers contended that the court shouldn’t have executed Ford because of his low IQ. Ford’s conviction was upheld by the supreme court on Thursday by a vote of 5 to 2, but it also mandated a hearing to examine if his intellectual handicap prevented his execution.
According to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh, the judge and jury made the right decision in sending Ford to death row.
The same defense was brought up again in 2019 when a high court jury reaffirmed Shawn’s conviction, but a hearing was set to determine whether Shawn has a very low IQ, which would prohibit his execution. According to a court document, every expert testified that Ford does not have an intellectual handicap. Shawn was not spared the death penalty as a result.
He is currently on death row at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution in Chillicothe, Ohio.
