Tama Tonga was born into a Tongan-American family. His life took a huge turn when he and his younger brother Taula were adopted by their maternal aunt and her husband, the great professional wrestler Tonga Fifita, often known as Haku or Meng.
This watershed moment occurred in 1991, when Fifita and his wife Dorothy Koloamatangi, also known as Auntie Dee, welcomed Leone and his brother into their family on a visit to their home country of Tonga.
The brothers were later relocated to Poinciana, Florida, where they were raised with their biological cousin and adoptive brother, Tevita, and their older sister, Vika.
Following his graduation from Poinciana High School, he took a different course and joined the United States Air Force.
Leone spent six years at Whiteman Air Force Base as a B-2 Spirit mechanic, demonstrating his passion and commitment to serving his country.
Meanwhile, his brother Tevita pursued his football passion, playing for the UTEP Miners.
However, destiny had different ideas for the Leone brothers. During a tragic phone call in 2004, Alipate and Tevita made a life-changing decision: they resolved to pursue professional wrestling careers once their separate duties were completed three years later.
