In connection with the 2019 death of his father, Burt Templet, Anthony Templet, who for years suffered from his father’s physical and psychological abuse, entered a not guilty plea to negligent murder.

He received a five-year probationary period under supervision.

The Netflix series’ documentary crew spent several weeks in Baton Rouge, where they followed court procedures and spoke with essential participants in the case.

Who is Burt Templet?

Various people had different perceptions about Burt Templet.

In addition to being accused of kidnapping Anthony when he was only five years old, his family alleges that he was abusive throughout their time together.

Burt had a secret life, as the trailer recognizes, and it appeared that he was more assured of hiding it than he was. He was charged with abuse and allegedly installed cameras all over his house to watch over friends and family.

Netflix, one of the biggest OTT platforms, is about to release the show and has already released its trailer. The charges against Burt are mentioned in the trailer, but until the docuseries’ August 9 release, they’re keeping their ace close to their chest.

‘I Just Killed My Dad’

I Just Killed My Dad, another docuseries about murder, failed relationships and revealed secrets, is part of Netflix’s genuine crime initiative.

The narrative focuses on Anthony Templet’s turbulent relationship with his father, Burt, whom he shot in June 2019. Instead of a protracted hunt for the murderer due to an immediate admission of guilt, Anthony’s motive was thoroughly investigated, discovering a lifetime’s worth of secrets.

Although the clip is highly dynamic, it only touches the surface. In reality, a lot of ground will need to be covered in the three-part series before the complex plot can start to make sense.

Anthony Templet says twelve words in the trailer, the first time we hear him speak, and they unquestionably hit a nerve.

“I shouldn’t be held accountable for anything because I did nothing wrong.”

You soon discover why Templet believed he didn’t do anything wrong when he shot his father. His tone of speech is almost numb as he says. Viewers will undoubtedly experience a wide range of emotions as they tune in to each episode since it is a twisted tale, a convoluted story, and a fine piece of storytelling.

All About Anthony Templet

At age 17, Anthony Templet of Baton Rouge killed his father.

In a phone chat with the operator, Templet explains what happened after telling the operator that he acted in self-defense, according to Fox8Live.

“He attempted to harm me. Then we started punching each other. I quickly entered his room, shut the door, and grabbed a revolver. He attempted to (inaudible) as I unlocked the door, and I then shot him”.

Police arrived at the site knowing that, but they soon discovered that the situation was far more intricate than a simple quarrel. It was quickly determined that Anthony’s family had been in the dark about his whereabouts for more than ten years.

Family members asserted that Burt had taken Anthony when he was just five years old and that they had not communicated with him in the years that had passed between the kidnapping and Burt’s death. Burt appeared to use keeping him imprisoned as a bargaining chip with the rest of their family.

Natasha, Templet’s sister, told WAFB that she believed her brother to be brave for enduring more than a decade-long abuse at the hands of their father. Additionally, she claimed that Burt had abused Anthony since he was a baby.

She also mentioned, “His father has isolated and mistreated him for years. For the final time, my courageous brother had to protect himself from that wicked man.

Where Is Anthony Templet Now?

After hearing all the evidence, a jury had to decide whether to free Templet or upgrade his charges to murder (per Insider).

He was reportedly imprisoned at a juvenile jail facility, according to WAFB. However, Templet was released on bond in December 2019. (via another article from WAFB). Templet killed his father in self-defense, according to his lawyer Jarrett Ambeau, who claimed that the matter did not need to go to trial (via The Advocate).

However, according to a different article published by The Advocate, Templet was eventually charged with second-degree murder and now faces a life sentence.

Templet accepted a plea agreement in March 2021 and entered a no-contest plea to negligent homicide. He was placed on supervised probation for half a decade. According to the prosecution, Templet’s father was known to have abused his ex-wife.

Additionally, records revealed that Templet had not attended school for years. “What would time in jail do for this young man who has never really had a chance to study, to make friends, or to be in the world,” asked prosecutor Dana Cummings.

According to The Advocate, Templet was compelled to earn a high school certificate as part of his plea agreement. He also had to decide whether to enroll in school or acquire full-time work, according to WAFB and attend counseling.

Templet’s record will be deleted if he complies. On August 9, Netflix will air “I Just Killed My Dad,” a documentary series about Templet’s life.
