At Nebraska Medicine, where he worked as a critical care physician and a trauma surgeon, Joseph took on extra 12-hour shifts. He informed her that his uneasiness and despair were caused by stress from the COVID-19 situation.

Dr. Joseph Stothert, MD, performed critical care surgery in Omaha, Nebraska.
He had worked in the medical industry for almost 48 years. In 1974, Joe received his medical degree from Saint Louis University’s School of Medicine. Joe worked at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
When Dr. Stothert obtained a new position at Creighton University in 1993, the Stothert family relocated to Omaha from Galveston, Texas.
For 18 years, Dr. Stothert was the medical director of the Omaha Fire Department’s emergency medical department.
He retired from the post in 2013.
