Deputy Glenn Hilliard has been with the Sheriff’s Office for roughly ten years after serving in many different departments. While on duty, he was shot and killed.
According to authorities on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, he was attempting to apprehend a suspect wanted on multiple felony charges. Deputy Hilliard and another deputy from Wicomico County went to an apartment complex in Pittsville on Sunday evening to arrest Austin Davidson of Delmar, Maryland, according to Sheriff Mike Lewis.
However, they didn’t see anyone who matched the description and left. When Hilliard returned to the complex parking lot about 10 minutes later, he saw a man leaving a stairwell who matched Davidson’s description.
When officer Hilliard drove closer, Davidson ran off. He chased him around the back of the complex and approached the woods. Unfortunately, Hilliard’s body-worn camera shows Davidson turned and shot multiple shots striking the officer at least once.

The authorities have arrested and charged Austin Davidson in the fatal shooting of a sheriff’s deputy Glenn Hilliard. More than 20 law enforcement agencies got involved together to search for Davidson.
After two hours, he got out of the woods and surrendered himself. He was already wanted for four arrest warrants. The authorities have charged him with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and other offenses in Hilliard’s death on Monday.
According to online court records, he was being booked into jail and waived a lawyer at his initial appearance. Officer Lewis described Hilliard as someone who is an incredible detective with skills in electronics.
Moreover, he also added that he was a “jokester” and beloved member of the sheriff’s family.

Austin Davidson confessed to shooting officer Glenn Hilliard, according to police charging documents. He shared what he did on a friend’s social media account.
He had said that he shot a cop and was scared. In addition, Austin also mentioned he had a gun which would triple his time.
Davidson’s backpack, which contained a semi-automatic handgun and magazines, was discovered in a camper in the same wooded area where he walked out to surrender.
Officer Hilliard is survived by his wife and three beautiful children.

The murder suspects Austin Davidson is 20-years old, as of 2022. Prior to the arrest on the suspicion of murder, he was already on the wanted list for other felony charges.
He was just 17 when he pleaded guilty to an armed robbery charge. The judge gave him probation before judgment.
On June 22, DFC Hilliard would have turned 42 years old. He was an 18-year law enforcement veteran, having spent the last decade with the Sheriff’s Office and the Crisfield and Berlin Police Departments before that.
